She said So

Round table discussion for the position of women and inequality in the music industry.

Gender inequality is an international social phenomenon, where it is becoming more and more political and social, which creates an increasing need to mobilize for equality. Institutions are being created internationally that deal with the idea of gender equality with a view to osmosis of ideas, opinions, and actions based on current data. Based on the Gender Equality Index in Europe in 2019 (EIGE’s Gender Equality Index) [1] we are slowly moving towards equality.

For the past 2 years, the index has risen by only one unit Pan-European. In the Arts in particular, the numbers remain low. In music, for example, in Europe, women are less than 20% active in the music industry.

Greece is not far from these numbers. For this reason, the newly formed Athenian “chapter” of She Said So, an international movement that mobilizes for women’s equality in music, in collaboration with HER, a local music project that empowers and supports women in music, comes to express a social problem that has now taken on a global dimension, to raise awareness about it, to “wake up” citizens from their convenient privacy and collectively declare their presence in order for tolerance to give way to participation.

On the occasion of the position of women in politics, the arts, industry, etc., we indirectly address inequality in many social and professional sectors. We emphasize the position of women in the music industry, and focus on moving from observation and sterile acceptance to practice.

Shesaid.so athens invites: Natassa Bofiliou, Sma Rag Da, Sugahspank, Memi Koupa, Maria Pappa and Amaria Katsanevaki to an open discussion about the position of women in the music industry.

The video will be broadcast on Thursday, September 10, 2020, on the Athens Pride channels

She Said So

In September 2014, the shesaid.so community was founded, an international group consisting of women from all sectors of the music industry: record companies, artist management, music technology, composition, etc. Based in London and Los Angeles, shesaid.so has 15 active capital communities around the world, such as New York, Paris, Berlin and Mumbai. She Said So’s vision is to connect and empower under-represented communities in the music industry, with an emphasis on women.

SheSaidSo.Athens

Launched in March 2020, SheSaidSo.Athens is the Athenian addition of the international She Said So movement, and the only one so far in Greece. She Said So aims to change the current situation of women in Music and Art, which is characterized by inadequate representation and exposure, limited opportunities to showcase their talent and many phenomena of sexism and harassment. Although there is improvement worldwide, the shift towards equality does not follow the accelerating pace of other countries. The general motto of #shesaidsoAthens lies in the idea that talent transcends gender, age, nationality and focuses solely on inspiration, collaboration, diversity and inclusion.

Its overall goal is, through coordinated efforts, initiatives, networking, resources, knowledge and experience, to create a platform of professionals from all sectors who will overthrow the well-known regime and pave the way for equality.
