Athens Pride 2014 – 10 years Athens Pride :
June 14, Klafthmonos Square
Our slogan 2014: FAMILY AFFAIR
This year, we focus on the concepts of equality and freedom of choice from the perspective of family life as defined by every LGBT person, and specifically on the legal recognition of all LGBT families.
The Greek State continues to deny us this right, even after the European Court of Human Rights decided on 11/2013 that “Greece has violated the European Convention on Human Rights by excluding same-sex couples from its Civil Partnership Law.”
Athens Pride advances the demand to expand of Family Law for all LGBT families and unwaveringly endorses the concept of the family that includes all sexualities and gender identities, as a nonnegotiable core value.

ABOUT ATHENS PRIDE
From the 1st historic Parade in 2005, with 500 people, to the 15,000 who marched in 2013, the LGBT community of Greece and the institution of Athens Pride have made great strides with respect to visibility in society. However, the road to equality and respect still has far to go.

Gay and Lesbian Athens
Athens has a vibrant LGBT community. Athens Pride is just one of the manifestations of our community as are the several LGBT venues that can be found throughout the city. Travel agents can arrange tailored travel packages and tours to nearby islands and more. In Athens, gay-friendly places can found mainly in Gazi, Metaxourgeio, Kerameikos, Psiri and Iera Odos districts.
Galleries and unique shops are here too. And the museums are a must to visit. Among European cities, Athens is the oldest one and the one with the longest history. This history is still evident in many of the buildings and monuments of today’s Greek capital.
In and Around Athens
Athens is easily accessed by air, sea and road as it is the capital of Greece. What is more, moving around the city is a real pleasure. Athens public transportation system connects the city center with all surrounding areas through a synchronous network combining many lines of metro, train, suburban railways, buses, trolley buses and trams. The capital is connected with other parts of the mainland through a network of railways and coaches. Furthermore, Athens has direct connections to all Greek islands through the ports of Piraeus, Lavrio and Rafina.
