{"id":5787,"date":"2019-05-12T18:26:28","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T15:26:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alpha.athenspride.eu\/?p=5787"},"modified":"2019-05-12T18:26:31","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T15:26:31","slug":"the-street-tells-our-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/athenspride.eu\/en\/the-street-tells-our-story\/","title":{"rendered":"THE STREET TELLS OUR STORY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The year 2019 is a\nmilestone in Greek LGBTQI history, a history inextricably linked to the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stonewall Inn Uprising\non June 28, 1969, in New York City, spurred the creation of a major liberation\nmovement, the Gay Liberation Front. One year later, on June 28, 1970, the first\nChristopher Street Liberation Day March took place. This march would become the\nmodel for Prides worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thirty-five years\nlater, on June 25, 2005, the LGBTQI people of Greece proudly took to the\nstreets of Athens to claim our visibility and respect in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> Athens\nPride Parade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On September 21,\n2018, Zak Kostopoulos\/Zackie Oh! breathed his last, murdered on an Athenian\nstreet in broad daylight. The 15<sup>th<\/sup> Athens Pride pays tribute to the\nmemory of our beloved Zak. We remember his courageous activism and together\nwith the community demand justice for his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Athens Pride 2019 focuses\non the role of the street as a democratic space of demonstration and revolution,\nbut also of triumph in the face of injustice and brutality. This year\u2019s poster\npresents some emblematic moments in the streets of our LGBTQI history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 8, 2019,\nwe once again proudly take to the historic streets of Athens. But that is not\nenough. On every street we walk, we demand to have freedom and safety from all\nforms of abuse and violence.
