Will you vote for your rights in May 2014?

20/12/2013

Athens Pride, in cooperation with Colour Youth – Athens LGBTQ Youth Community, is pleased to announce the project Vote for your rights! ahead of the upcoming European Parliamentary elections and municipal elections in May 2014.

The aim of the project is three-fold:

  • To empower LGBTQ voters and particularly youth to stand up for their rights and make an informed decision when voting, taking LGBTQ rights into serious consideration when choosing a political party or candidate.

  • To monitor and expose homophobic and transphobic political discourse while pressuring political parties and candidates to acknowledge the LGBTQ community and address LGBTQ concerns.

  • To sensitize voters beyond the LGBTQ population to prioritize human rights when voting.

The project will run for eight months, from January to August 2014. Key project activities will include the creation of a website informing voters of political party and candidate positions on LGBTQ rights, research on LGBTQ voters, and lobbying of political parties and electoral candidates.

Now is the time for the LGBTQ community and civil society organizations to put the issue of their rights on the political agenda.

Vote for your rights! is implemented as part of the Open Society Initiative for Europe.
